Warning: Galaxy S10 Android 10 beta is locking people out of their phones

The Android 10 One UI 2.0 beta for the Galaxy S10 series has a critical bug: The device is locking people out by refusing to accept their PIN, password, or pattern, with the issue cropping up after a device is restarted. Those who have set up the Remote unlock feature enabled on their phone have been able to use Samsung’s Find My Mobile service to delete all biometrics (password, PIN, pattern, fingerprint and facial recognition), but since the bug causes the device to reject all passwords as incorrect, they have been unable to set a new pattern/PIN/password afterwards.

Unfortunately, not everyone has Remote unlock enabled, and for them, a factory reset and flashing back to Android Pie via Samsung Smart Switch (which deletes all data) is the only solution. Some users have even been unable to set a pattern/PIN/password after reverting to Pie. Samsung is yet to officially say anything on the matter, and it’s unclear how the company will fix the problem for those users who don’t want to factory reset their device and are locked out. A regular software update won’t cut it, as a device needs to be unlocked for installing updates.

Take precaution before the issue affects your Galaxy S10 or Note 10

For now, if you’re using the Android 10 beta on a Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10, it’s recommended that you change your lock screen security method to swipe or none from the Settings » Lock screen menu until Samsung releases a new beta update or a fix for the problem. You should also enable Remote unlock from the Settings » Biometrics and security » Find My Mobile menu on your phone so you can use Find My Mobile to access it you run into the issue in the future.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops, and in the meantime, you can tell us if you have faced the issue on your Galaxy S10 or Galaxy Note 10.

Go to Samsung Service centre and say them to downgrade your S10 plus or do it by your self by downloading the respective firmware.

An update has appeared, but what if someone has already locked the phone? The update will not install itself. It is good as if it could be done through ODIN

abhijeetnaohate

How to apply it via ODIN?

I just don’t know why samsung can’t release the version to upload via ODIN. 🙁 since there is a package that fixes it ….

How do you remove screen lock without entering the pin? I have bio metrics enables, so managing with that for now

Tried removing the option to ask for pin at device restart, but couldn’t as it wont accept the pin

For now, have removed the option of scheduled restart from device management and praying the device doesn’t restart for any other reason

is a catch 22 issue you cannot change the lock screen or remove the PIN or any other methods – without first entering your PIN code – however the pin doesnt work – meaning yo cant really change it i dont know how this is even possible i thougt PINs are stored on the phones and not affected by some server issues they are having etc it is a BIG problem that is raising other questions – are we all at risk one day of being locked out of our phones by some glithc that samsung is experiencing this is… Read more »

I’d rather have Samsung enable the telephoto and ultra wide camera in Pro mode.

The real bad news is even after installing the Android Pie Rom it doesn’t allow users to set any security lock on their phone. Heard most of the users in Samsung Memebers app complaining about it. Even I am affected by this bug. Waiting to see if Samsung releases a fix soon.

SINGH031280
SINGH031280

It’s started after 4 days installed beta. In India we all install beta on 24th oct but problem starts on 28th oct to all users. We have posted on Samsung Members app forum so many times but nobody got any solution from Samsung side.

Andi2111

Okay, let´s see. I installed Beta October 25th. I cross the fingers, that I don´t get this problem also

SINGH031280

Time to time try to unlock your phone with pin when it says incorrect pin then never restart or power off your device otherwise you’ll not be able to on the device. On other side remove all type of screen lock and stay on swipe till next beta update.
