VMware recently announced at the Confidential Computing Summit 2023 that it is partnering with chipmakers Samsung, AMD, and the RISC-V Keystone community for a project to help accelerate the adoption of confidential computing. VMware is collaborating with such big partners for an open-source project called ‘Certifier Framework for Confidential Computing.'

This project aims to adopt confidential computing, i.e., encryption technology, for processing data. Besides, VMware is at the forefront of developing projects that will help protect the information being used. This is a big step in this direction, as there are several encryption technologies to secure the data being processed, but there isn't much for the information being utilized.

With confidential computing, VMware wants to change this fact, and the idea is based on an emerging processor concept known as the ‘trusted execution environment.' Notably, this means protecting the data being deployed in cloud infrastructure or edge servers that might be operated by third parties, as noted by SiliconANGLE.

By partnering with Samsung, AMD, and RISC-V, VMware aims to standardize an easy-to-use platform-independent application programming interface that will help maintain the confidentiality of computing applications. All partners in this project believe their work on the Certifier Framework will eventually revolutionize the computing industry by enabling confidential computing on x86, Arm, and RISC-V processor architectures.

The Galaxy experience can be messy for first-time users

Some say it's always better to have more options, but it's never as clear-cut as it sounds. This design philosophy doesn't always work, and more importantly, it isn't a magical shortcut that can patch everything up and always lead to a better user experience. On the contrary, if not handled properly, I believe the “more […]

A few years ago, Samsung went on a crusade to abolish the confusopoly it inadvertently created by offering too many choices in the low and mid-range Galaxy phone market segments. The company disposed of the Galaxy J series and simplified things. It focused solely on a few Galaxy A models, and in markets such as […]
