The Telegram 8.4 update bought a highly-anticipated feature to the messaging platform i.e the ability to react to individual messages. Its successor, Telegram 8.5, improves upon the feature and adds a few other goodies along the way. The Telegram 8.5 update is rolling out to Android worldwide and should be available on the Play Store for all.

Video Stickers

Strictly speaking, Telegram has had animated stickers for quite some time. Now, one can use a WEBM file to create a sticker. Do note that a file has to be less than 512 KB in size. You can find out more about how to go about it on Telegram’s help page. Telegram 8.5 also lets you import stickers from other messaging apps.

New message reactions and interactive emojis

Initially, only a handful of emojis could be used as message reactions. Telegram 8.5 expands upon that by adding new ones. It would be ideal if  users could use their own emojis, but that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. At least, the reaction emojis are now interactive and show you a little animation when you tap on them.

On the topic of interactive emojis, Telegram 8.5 has new animations for certain emojis sent in a private chat ( 🥰🤯🤔🤬👏). Tapping on them reveals a full-screen animation viewable by both parties if they’re online simultaneously.

Other Telegram 8.5 features include new navigation features which let you scroll through recent chats by long-pressing the back button. There are several other minor bugfixes and improvements for audio/video calls.
