Suga of BTS talks Galaxy foldables and personal history in new interview

Min Yoon-gi, a.k.a. Suga of BTS, a.k.a. Agust D, sat down for an interview with Won-Joon Choi, and the outcome of that interaction resulted in a 5-minute video Samsung posted on its official YouTube channel earlier today.

Suga, now an honorary Samsung employee, had a few questions ready for the EVP and Head of Mobile R&D Office at Samsung about the latest foldable phones unveiled last week, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The Korean superstar also revealed a little bit about his history with Samsung devices and his relationship with computers growing up.

    Suga's first Galaxy phone wasn't a foldable

As a primer for the interview with Won-Joon Choi, Suga revealed that he's been using Galaxy phones since 2016. Or, more specifically, since the Galaxy S7.

The Galaxy S7 came a few years before Samsung released its first foldable phone, at a time when display bezels were far from uniform, and mainstream Galaxy phones still had a row of buttons (physical and capacitive) below the screen.

Samsung's foldable phones of the current era look a lot different than the Galaxy S7 and have evolved past the wildest dreams we may have had in 2016.

    Story continues after the video

Back to Suga's interview, the superstar also revealed that, when he was young, he used to play around with computer parts and loved building things by himself. It sounds like Suga used to assemble his own PCs.

Suga's on-topic questions for Samsung's Won-Joon Choi revolved around design end engineering, the clever foldable hinge, and the foldable display itself. He also got Won-Joon Choi to talk a bit more about how and why Samsung came up with the idea for foldable phones.

According to the EVP, ever since the original Galaxy S went live in 2010, Samsung believed that providing better user experiences through a larger screen was crucial. However, there's a limit to how big a smartphone can be. But with advancements in foldable display technology, Samsung knew it could create smaller phones with bigger screens.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are the latest foldable creations from Samsung, and they're now available for pre-order. They'll hit the shelves on August 11, but early adopters can benefit from free memory upgrades and other bonuses.
