Starfield will get AMD FSR 3 feature next week

Bethesda Games Studios has announced that it will add AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) to the beta version of Starfield for PC next week with an update to the game through Steam Beta. The developer also says that it will add FSR 3 to the stable version of Starfield for PC later this month with an update to the game that will arrive before the next scheduled update.

What is AMD FSR 3 and how will it benefit Starfield players?

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 upscales the image and generates frames to offer a sharper image and increased framerate for a smoother gaming experience. According to the company, FSR 3 offers a 2.5 times higher performance at 4K resolution. Currently, Radeon RX 6000, Radeon RX 7000, and Radeon 700M GPUs support FSR 3.

It means that when Starfield gets FSR 3, people should be able to see a massive bump in the game’s framerate on the same hardware, which will give them a much smoother gaming experience. The new feature could save people from buying a new GPU. It is literally a money-saver. However, you might have to tinker with a few settings to avoid ugly artifacts.

AMD is also rolling out AFMF

Recently, AMD also started rolling out AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) to Radeon RX 6000, Radeon RX 7000, and Radeon 700M GPUs. Unlike FSR 3, which upscales the image and generates frames, AFMF only generates frames. Also, since AFMF doesn’t get game data, it doesn’t work as well as FSR 3. On the positive side, AFMF can work with any game, unlike FSR 3, which a developer has to implement in a game. Asus is soon going to offer AFMF to the ROG Ally, which could offer a huge performance bump to the console.
