On Thursday, Sony launched Sony Pictures Core, a movie streaming application, for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and the PlayStation 4 (PS4) gaming consoles. This is the same movie streaming platform that’s available on Bravia TVs and Xperia smartphones as Sony Bravia Core. Speaking of which, the company has changed the name of the Sony Bravia Core app on those devices to Sony Pictures Core. The new app will be available on the PS5 and the PS4 from October 5, 2023, in 23 regions globally.

The Sony Pictures Core app on the two gaming consoles allows people to buy or rent movies on the platform. According to the company, there are currently more than 2,000 movie titles available on Sony Pictures Core. Some of the popular movies on the platform include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Some of the movies that are currently available for free to PlayStation Plus members include Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation.

Sony says that it plans to bring a “selection of hit anime content” to Sony Pictures Core in collaboration with Crunchyroll, an American company that distributes and licenses anime films and television series. The company also says “There will also be additional benefits for all PlayStation Plus members”, but it hasn’t revealed any details on the matter yet. You can download Sony Pictures Core on your PS5 or PS4 from the Media section.
