Last week, Samsung announced Wear OS 5-based One UI 6 Watch for Galaxy Watches. It will bring Galaxy AI to the company’s wearables, which will offer a plethora of AI-powered health-related features. These include Energy Score, Wellness Guide, Workout Routine, new metrics for Sleep Insights and Personalised Heart Rate Zone, and the Race mode for running or cycling.
Since then, many people have been wondering if those Galaxy AI features in Galaxy Watch will work only if the smartwatch is paired with Samsung’s smartphones or other Android devices too. Well, we took a closer look at the press release and found the answer to that question.
In the footnotes, Samsung clarifies that the Energy Score and Wellness Guide features of Galaxy AI for Galaxy Watches will work with all Android devices running Android 10 and newer versions of the OS and the Samsung Health app version 6.27 and newer version of the app. So, if you have a non-Samsung phone, these two features will work on your Galaxy Watch seamlessly.
As for the new metrics in the Personalised Heart Rate Zone, there are three, Aerobic Threshold (AT), Anaerobic Threshold (AnT), and Functional Threshold Power (FTP). Among these, only the last one will work only with Samsung phones. That’s a bummer for Galaxy Watch owners with non-Samsung phones.

Samsung hasn’t clarified if the Workout Routine, new metrics for Sleep Insights, and the Race mode for running or cycling will work with non-Samsung phones or not. We hope that they do. We will know more about it as the rollout of One UI 6 Watch gets closer. Speaking of which, Samsung will roll it out later this year.
