Notably, as per the latest report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now spotted developing a redesigned media picker for its Android application.
For years, WhatsApp has seen multiple inclusions and upgrades. Over the years, we've got features like WhatsApp Web, 90-day disappearing messages, ability to transfer chats from iOS, and more.
However, the WhatsApp media picker hasn't seen much change. But that is about to change. The latest beta release version 2.22.4.4 of WhatsApp for Android shows some evidence of a revamped file picker. Currently, when you press the ‘camera' button on the Chat bar, it opens up the camera application. It shows you a row of scrollable recent images. Finding old photos or videos can be a bit tricky using this interface.
To locate older media files, you need to then tap on the attachment icon and search for the file on a dedicated File Manager app or any third-party file manager app, you have installed on your phone. After the update arrives, you will be shown two new tabs, i.e., the ‘Recent' and ‘Gallery' tabs. It will appear when you press the ‘camera' button and swipe up.
This will make it easier to send single or multiple media files to anyone or status updates. One thing the scribe highlights is that this new WhatsApp feature won't be available when you normally share media from chat. You need to take a photo with the in-app camera feature in order to view the redesigned media picker. Apparently, this feature is still under development and isn't available for everyone yet, even on the beta channel.
