Last month, we reported that Oppo’s upcoming flagship smartphone series, the Find X9 lineup, may use one of Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL sensors for the telephoto camera. Considering that most Chinese brands are using the ISOCELL HP9 for this job, we assumed that Oppo would also take this route. Well, there has been an interesting development to the story.
According to Digital Chat Station, one of the four devices in the Oppo Find X9 series, the Find X9 Pro, will use Samsung’s ISOCELL HP5 200MP sensor for the periscope camera. Interestingly, the brand hasn’t announced the ISOCELL HP5 yet; we have only heard about the company developing it and planning to use it for the Galaxy S25 Edge and the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The tipster claims that the Samsung ISOCELL HP5 camera sensor will have a 1/1.56-inch size, 200MP resolution, 0.05um pixel size, and will support Dual Conversion Gain HDR (DCG-HDR). As you can see, it will be a smaller sensor than the ISOCELL HP9.
In all likelihood, the Oppo Find X9 Pro will be the first smartphone to use the Samsung ISOCELL HP9, and the first device to use it for the periscope camera. Considering that Oppo launched the Find X8 Pro in October 2024, it may launch the Oppo Find X9 Pro in October 2025.
If that's the case, Samsung may have to announce the ISOCELL HP5 before October 2025.
