Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, Flip 8 use Google's Gemini Nano 4 on-device AI model

Samsung's newest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, are not only the first phones to run One UI 9.0 and Android 17 out of the box, but also the first Galaxy phones to run Google's newest on-device AI model, Gemini Nano 4.

Earlier this year, Google unveiled its new Gemma 4 models, which became the foundation for its newest on-device AI model, Gemini Nano 4. Google revealed on the Android Developers Blog that the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra run Gemini Nano 4. This means that AI features powered by the model can run entirely on-device without an internet connection.

Gemini Nano 4 supports more than 140 languages, improved multimodal inputs, including better text recognition in images and chart reading, stronger reasoning for logic and chain-of-thought tasks, and a larger context window. It is also up to four times faster, uses up to 60% less battery power, and offers better support for agentic AI.

This new AI model also powers Gemini Intelligence features on the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It lets you automate tasks such as booking concert or movie tickets, making a hotel reservation, or ordering coffee. Gemini Notebook also uses Gemini Intelligence.
