You can find Samsung's memory chips in everything from your smartphones to computers, servers, tablets, cars, and more. Soon, you'll find them in space as well. Samsung's memory chips are hitching a ride on a rocket that's headed to space.

Samsung is working with Nara Space Technology, a Korean micro-satellite startup, on this. The reason Samsung is sending memory chips to space is to run tests on the reliability of memory semiconductors in space.

Samsung's chips are headed to space

Samsung will send a memory chip evaluation tester it developed to space on the South Korean Nuri rocket that's due for its fourth launch in 2025. Reliability tests will be conducted on memory semiconductors in space by incorporating the chips into a domestic component verification satellite.

Nara Space will develop the equipment required to secure the memory semiconductors and the reliability evaluation testers. The company is also going to take part in the equipment's performance to make sure that it can reliably operate in space.

Samsung is no stranger to the final frontier. It literally calls its entire lineup of phones “Galaxy”. It has even sent the Galaxy S24 Ultra to space to capture some amazing shots of the earth from above.

This unique test will further Samsung's ambitious to become the memory supplier of choice for any and all uses. As interest in space exploration grows considerably, it's as good a time as any for Samsung to showcase the reliability and usability of its memory products in some of the harshest environments known to man.
