TL;DR

  • Samsung Wallet on US Galaxy phones now supports USDC, letting users add, transfer, and manage the stablecoin in the app.
  • Users can send USDC to compatible crypto wallets or qualifying bank accounts, with no transfer fees to third-party wallets.
  • Samsung’s cross-border payment feature covers 60+ countries and may expand to online and tap-to-pay purchases later.

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Wallet app on Galaxy phones now supports stablecoins, starting with USDC in the US. Users can send USDC directly to qualifying traditional bank accounts and compatible crypto wallets.

With stablecoin capabilities built directly into Samsung Wallet, users can add, transfer, and manage USDC natively on their Galaxy phones. Samsung is not charging any fees to transfer USDC to compatible third-party crypto wallets.

Users with Galaxy phones do not need to download other cryptocurrency apps to add stablecoins or manage private keys.

Samsung Wallet supports USDC stablecoin transfer to over 60 countries

Moreover, Samsung Wallet features a built-in cross-border payment gateway that supports over 60 countries.
Funds are automatically converted and delivered in the recipient's local currency, meaning the recipient does not even need to know they are receiving crypto.

Samsung is relying on Bastion, Coinbase, Solana, and Sui for this feature. Bastion is a licensed stablecoin custodian managing the cross-border payment framework, while Coinbase will safely store the USDC assets. Solana and Sui are blockchain networks named as Samsung's technical partners.

This new stablecoin feature will be available to around 82 million Galaxy phone users in the US at launch.

Samsung also stated plans to allow users to pay for goods online and tap-to-pay in physical stores using stablecoins via Samsung Wallet. The feature is expected to expand to more countries over time.
