In March 2024, Spotify started rolling out music videos in beta. Initially, the music streaming platform offered it in 11 markets, then expanded to 85 regions, and yesterday, released it in Canada and the US. Well, Spotify music videos are now available on Samsung TVs as well.
Earlier today, when we opened the Spotify app on our Samsung S90C OLED TV in India and played a song, the now playing screen offered a new option called ‘Switch to music video‘. Selecting it brought up the video of the song, as you can see in the images below.
Once it starts playing the video of the song, the ‘Switch to music video‘ button gets replaced with the ‘Switch to audio’ button. As you might expect, selecting it will stop showing the video and only play the audio.
Alongside it, there are ‘Lyrics,’ ‘Queue & Jam,’ and ‘Dark Mode’ buttons. If you select Lyrics, the app will ask you to switch to audio to see lyrics. Selecting Dark Mode will stop showing the video. The Queue and Jam option shows the songs lined up to be played next. There is, however, no option for selecting video quality.
For music videos, you also get play/pause, previous, next, shuffle, and repeat buttons, along with a progress bar, which you can use to forward or rewind the video. Below these controls, you will also see the ‘Related music videos‘ section, showing videos related to the one that’s currently playing.
