Samsung has a TV manufacturing facility in Russia and is considering leasing it out to other companies. It is being reported by Reuters that the South Korean firm, which is the biggest TV brand in the world for close to two decades, had to stop operations at its TV and monitor manufacturing plant in 2022 after the Russia-Ukraine war started.
Samsung's TV and monitor plant in Russia could be leased out to other firms. A Kommersant report was released on Tuesday, which said that local electronics wholesaler VVP Group will start making equipment under its own brand and for other brands using Samsung's TV plant. Samsung invested $137 million in opening this TV factory back in 2008. It was opened in the Kaluga region, which is 48 miles (80km) away from Moscow.
While VVP Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this report, Samsung refused to comment on it. It is said that Samsung is following the trend where several other global firms have either halted sales of their products and services in Russia or completely stopped their operations due to the country's invasion of Ukraine.
Samsung has been the world's biggest TV brand for 17 years in a row, and it has also been among the most popular gaming monitor companies. The company makes several types of TVs across a wide price range, bringing something for everyone. It makes cheap LCD TVs, mid-range QLED TVs, and high-end Mini-LED and OLED TVs. The company also makes Micro LED TVs, but they are too costly as of now.
