Samsung to supply even more OLED panels for iPhone 17

Apple, before kicking off the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air production, decided to source displays for these phones from Samsung and LG. Apple also chose Samsung as the major supplier, offering it a contract to supply around 80 million OLED screens.

At a later stage, BOE managed to win a contract to supply OLED screens for the iPhone 17 and the iPhone Air, but in very small quantities, around 10 million units. Well, BOE seems to be facing difficulty fulfilling the order, and the gap left by it may be filled by Samsung.

According to a new report from ZDNet Korea, BOE has failed to resolve the issues with the reliability of the OLED panels it was supposed to supply to Apple for the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air. Looking at the situation, Apple is said to have decided to source those 10 million units of OLED screen from Samsung Display, which it was supposed to get from BOE. With that, the South Korean tech giant is now expected to supply 90 million units of OLED display panels to Apple.

Apple uses OLED screens with the LTPO technology for the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air. While Samsung and LG had experience making OLED displays with LTPO, BOE didn't. It is one of the main reasons the Chinese brand is facing issues supplying OLED screens for the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air.
