Samsung is going all in to support Matter and Thread to improve the smart home experience of SmartThings users. A couple of months ago, it was revealed that it has developed a new SmartThings Hub that supports Thread networking. Now, it has explained all its features and improvements.
Samsung's most advanced smart home hub till date is the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2. It features Matter, SmartThings, Thread, and Zigbee support. Being the leader in Matter adoption, Samsung says its newest hub is the most advanced and compact smart home hub that exists, featuring the most reliable Matter connectivity. With the new device, the company aims to simplify smart home setup with a seamless process.
The hub features a 53% faster CPU performance, 2x the amount (512MB) of RAM, and a 50% more compact body compared to the previous generation Aeotec Smart Home Hub. It also features a wall-mount option to improve the hub's installation flexibility. The device also prioritises local connections for faster smart home operations.
It is also a Thread Border Router and can merge with existing Thread networks or allow other Thread networks to connect to its network via the SmartThings app. As expected, the new hub supports internet connectivity for cloud operations as a backup.
It has a very simple setup and supports automated home security with real-time alerts, streaming, and smart locks. It also features adaptive climate control based on presence detection. It has energy monitoring and optimisation for high-consumption devices. Its safety features include support for air quality monitoring, leak detection, and smoke alarms.
The product will be available for purchase in the USA very soon. Keep checking this webpage for updates on its release date and pricing.
Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics, said, “With Smart Home Hub 2, we’re enabling more people to start and grow their AI Home experience with the speed and reliability of a dedicated hub, industry-leading Matter support, and of course the power and breadth of the SmartThings ecosystem.“
