A couple of months ago, Samsung announced its first PCIe 5.0 SSD, the PM9E1. Last month, it was reported that Samsung will start mass production of the new SSD with extra anti-forgery measures. The company has now announced its latest SSD's mass production has begun.
Samsung PM9E1 PCIe 5.0 SSD mass production has started
Samsung announced it has begun the mass production of the PM9E1, which is the industry's fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD. It uses Samsung's custom SSD controller, which is built using 5nm technology, and its in-house eight-generation V-NAND chips. It offers sequential data read and write speeds of up to 14.5Gbps and 13Gbps, respectively.
The new SSD has improved capacity, power efficiency, security, and speed compared to Samsung's previous-generation SSD, the PM9A1a. Thanks to its improved speeds, the SSD is great for AI processing, which needs a huge amount of data at a fast pace.
The PM9E1 is available in various capacities ranging from 512GB to 4TB. Thanks to its 50% improved power efficiency, the new SSD offers longer battery life in laptops. It also features Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) v1.2 for enhanced security. It can prevent forgery or manipulation of stored data.
YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said, “Our PM9E1 integrated with a 5nm controller delivers industry-leading power efficiency and utmost performance validated by our key partners. In the rapidly growing on-device AI era, Samsung’s PM9E1 will offer a robust foundation for global customers to effectively plan their AI portfolios.“
