Samsung smartphones and tablets receive one or more Google Play System updates almost every month. Unlike system software and app updates, which are identified by version numbers, these updates display a timestamp indicating the date, month, and year they correspond to. However, the latest Google Play System updates for Galaxy phones come with an unusual timestamp.
Yesterday, Galaxy S26 Ultra units running the stable version of One UI 9.0 received a new Google Play System update weighing around 100MB (via Kailash). While users might have expected it to carry an October 2026 or even November 2026 timestamp, given that the current month is nearing its end, the update surprisingly carries a January 1, 2027 timestamp—more than two months ahead of the current date.
As usual, Google hasn’t provided a changelog for either update. Other Samsung smartphones worldwide may also receive this update soon. To check for its availability and install it, go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play System update.
Speaking of updates for Galaxy phones, Samsung is almost done rolling out its latest custom Android interface, One UI 9.0 (Android 17), to all the eligible devices. The brand also seems to be in the advanced stages of developing One UI 9.5 and may have started planning for One UI 10.0.
