One UI 7 adds an option to disable a low battery annoyance

If you are a long-time user of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, you have likely found yourself letting the expletives fly on more than one occasion because your phone's battery dropped too low and the screen went super dim.

This annoying behavior has been present on Galaxy smartphones for a long time: every time the battery charge drops to 5%, the display brightness is reduced drastically. The brightness goes so low that the screen becomes near impossible to read, especially when you're outdoors during the day, and you have to blindly try and increase the brightness back up using the slider in the quick panel.

With One UI 7, this annoyance is finally going away. On the latest version of One UI (which is based on Android 15), Samsung has added an option to disable the automatic dimming of the screen when the battery is below 5%. This option, called Auto dim screen, can be found in the Settings » Battery menu.

This is one of many changes coming to Galaxy devices with One UI 7 that sound trivial but can have a big impact on the user experience. At the time of writing, One UI 7 is available on the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 lineups, but a wider rollout should begin sometime in February, at least for flagship devices.
