Samsung One UI 5.1.1 update for original Galaxy Z Flip rolling out

The first Galaxy Z Flip smartphone was launched back in early 2020 and was one of the Galaxy devices that were eligible for three major Android OS upgrades. Those major upgrades have come and gone – the Z Flip launched running Android 10 and is currently on Android 13.

And now, the Galaxy Z Flip is getting what will be its last One UI version update. One UI 5.1.1 has started rolling out to the OG Flip this week and is available in nearly a dozen countries. Samsung has been moving quickly with One UI 5.1.1 ever since it officially announced that the update will be released in August, so we can expect availability of One UI 5.1.1 for the Flip to expand to more countries rapidly in the coming days.

One UI 5.1.1 is a foldable and tablet-specific One UI update and focuses mainly on improving the multitasking experience and features that take advantage of the foldable form factor. For example, apps running in a pop-up window can now be flicked out of the way until they're needed again, and you can also long press the handle at the top of a pop-up window to quickly switch to a split-screen view.

One UI 5.1.1 is the final feature update for the OG Flip

One UI 5.1.1 enables two-handed drag and drop – you can select multiple files and start dragging them with one hand and use the other hand to open the app or location where you want to copy the selected files. Flex Mode, which is activated when the phone is not fully unfolded and puts an app in the upper half of the screen while putting important controls at the bottom, now works with more apps. For media apps, Samsung has added buttons for skipping forward or backward in 10-second increments.

The update also brings minor improvements to various other features. In the Gallery app, you can now copy effects applied to one image to another image, and you also get to choose from additional watermark options in the camera app. The Gallery app on One UI 5.1.1 also lets you apply effects more easily by providing a dial to control effects and filters instead of a slider.

Galaxy Z Flip owners can download the One UI 5.1.1 update (carring firmware version F700FXXUDKWH7 for the LTE variant and F707BXXUAKWH7 for the 5G model) and the August 2023 security patch) on their phone by opening its Settings app, navigating to Software update menu, and tapping Download and install. Alternatively, you can perform the upgrade using firmware available in our archive and a Windows PC. Keep in mind that the update may not be available in your country right away so you may want to keep checking again from time to time.

And if you feel like it might be time for an upgrade, be sure to watch our Galaxy Z Flip 5 video review below to see what you're getting with Samsung's newest Flip.
