Since generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) assistants, such as OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, have launched, the demand for AI-powered tools has increased sharply. Most of these pieces of software run on AI accelerators located in server farms, and these servers require a large amount of high-bandwidth memory (HBM). The devices on which you access AI tools also require a higher amount of memory to process the AI tasks smoothly.

As such, in recent times, the demand for memory chips has also increased sharply. With that, there has been a severe shortage of memory chips lately, and that has caused memory chip prices to surge significantly, as much as 50%. Well, people may soon start facing the heat of the memory crisis, and unfortunately, that includes people planning to buy Samsung products.

According to Hankyung, due to an increase in memory chip prices, Samsung is planning to increase the price of many of its products, including smartphones. Unfortunately, there’s no information about how much the brand will hike the prices. That is despite Samsung being one of the major memory chip manufacturers around the globe.

Before you blame Samsung, you should know it is not just the South Korean tech giant that is planning to increase the prices of its products due to the memory crisis. Many other brands are also planning to do the same. For example, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi K90 at a 7.5% higher price compared to that of its predecessor.

If you were planning to buy a Samsung product, you should do that as soon as possible to save yourself from spending extra money. Reportedly, the memory price inflation will continue till 2027 or 2028.
