After sharing its recent record profits with employees of the semiconductor division, who received record bonuses, Samsung might soon make its shareholders very happy.
According to reports, the company is expected to announce a new shareholder return policy that may be worth nearly $72 billion.
South Korean media is reporting that Samsung is going to hold a board meeting later this month to announce a new shareholder return policy. The new policy may return up to $72 billion to shareholders, a record high not just for the company but also for any domestic company in South Korea.
The company may execute this new policy through a number of ways. It could announce a special dividend which would be paid to shareholders of the company.
Another option would be to buyback the company's shares, but the report suggests that Samsung may favor dividends. Fewer shares trading on the market should result in higher share prices, thereby increasing returns for stockholders.
Samsung isn't the only local company enjoying the benefits of the ongoing semiconductor boom to return more value to shareholders. SK Hynix, its top rival in the memory space, recently announced its largest shareholder return policy worth roughly $28 billion, which would be used to buyback the company's shares.
The returns could end up being even higher for Samsung Electronics shareholders in 2027, as the company's profits are projected to hit another record high, primarily due to the skyrocketing memory chip prices.
