At the beginning of 2023, Samsung released some of the best Windows 11 ultrabooks Galaxy smartphone users can buy. The Intel-powered Galaxy Book 3 series consists of a budget-oriented laptop, 2-in-1 convertibles, and even an Nvidia RTX-powered model called the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra.

Now, one rumor says Samsung may also plan to get in on the Windows on Arm laptop market. More importantly, the company is supposedly designing a new Exynos chipset for the segment.

Old rumors, new Windows laptop?

Interestingly, this isn't the first time we're hearing rumors about Samsung wanting to tackle the Windows on Arm laptop market. Similar reports were floating around in early 2021, and back then, it was rumored that Samsung might repurpose the Exynos 2200 SoC (which has an Xclipse GPU based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture) to power a new Windows on Arm laptop.

Then, other rumors explored the possibility that Samsung may be developing a different Exynos chipset for Windows on Arm laptops. Nothing came of these rumors, and two years later, we're still waiting to hear more about Samsung's alleged plans for this niche laptop segment.

But perhaps Samsung went back to the drawing board and is now reconsidering its plans for an Exynos chip for Windows on Arm laptops. Or maybe the company never stopped developing this mysterious Exynos chip and was able to keep it a secret for almost two years and counting.

Windows on Arm has evolved into something better, especially now that the platform supports x64 emulation, which allows users to run 64-bit legacy Windows apps. The Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is considered one of the best Windows on Arm laptops, and Samsung may be working on an Exynos-powered competitor. Time will tell if there's any truth to this new rumor.
