Samsung made more phones in India than Apple last year

While Vietnam is primarily where Samsung phones are made, India has also become an important manufacturing base for the company. It houses one of Samsung's biggest production facilities out of South Korea and could play a major role in helping the company navigating the evolving tariff situation.

Apple also views India as an important manufacturing base, yet in terms of sheer numbers, Samsung assembled a lot more phones than Apple did in 2024.

India is becoming an important manufacturing hub for Samsung

In terms of global volume, Samsung assembled more smartphones in India compared to Apple, a new report has revealed. India accounted for 25% of Samsung's global smartphone assembly volume compared to Apple's 15%.

Meanwhile, Vietnam accounted for 55% of Samsung's global volume with Brazil coming in third place with a 12% share. The vast majority of Apple's phones are still made in China, but that could change if the tariff uncertainty continues.

Both Samsung and Apple could face tariffs on phones imported in the United States. While the previously announced tariff rates were paused, given the higher rates on Vietnam compared to India, both companies were likely going to use their capacities in India for export to the United States.

Analysts project that this may enable India to account for a record 20% of global smartphone manufacturing output in the near future. That would be a significant jump, since as of 2024, China and Vietnam accounted for the bulk of the global smartphone manufacturing output.
