Samsung is officially done selling TVs and home appliances in China

A few recent reports hinted that Samsung is being forced to rethink its product strategy in mainland China amid intense competition from local brands. One report even claimed Samsung, particularly its home appliance business, may leave the Chinese market. As it turns out, those claims were not exaggerated.

As highlighted by @UniverseIce on X, Samsung's official home page in China now greets visitors with a notice stating that the company has decided to cease sales of all home appliances in mainland China, including TVs and monitors.

According to the notice, which you can see in the screenshot above, this decision comes in response “to the rapidly changing market environment.”

Samsung will continue to provide after-sales service, “in strict accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Law,” for customers who have already purchased a Samsung home appliance.

The company did not offer further details, but earlier reports indicated that Chinese brands have pushed the Korean tech giant out of the local market through aggressive pricing.

Those same reports also noted that Samsung's home appliance manufacturing infrastructure in China, for products destined for overseas markets, will remain operational. Samsung is only halting sales locally, but manufacturing in China continues.

Outside China, Samsung's home appliance and consumer electronics businesses remain strong. The company has held its position as the world's number one global TV brand for 20 years in a row, the leading soundbar brand for 11 years, and Europe's top microwave oven brand for 11 years, and counting.
