The number of 5G phones in Samsung India's product mix has increased significantly over the past couple of years. The vast majority of all Galaxy phones that it releases in the country are now equipped with 5G capabilities.

With the launch of its new mid-range 5G devices, the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55, Samsung is expecting that 5G-enabled phones will account for the vast majority of all smartphone sales in India this year.

Samsung remains the top 5G phone company in India

If the company is able to hit its expected target of 75%, this is going to represent a significant improvement, as around 61% of sales in India came from 5G phones last year. The new devices will definitely play a role in making that happen.

GM of Samsung's mobile division in India, Akshay Rao, said during the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 launch that the company has rolled out eight new handsets in the first months of this calendar year, all of which are 5G. Last year, Samsung India launched 19 phones of which 16 had 5G. These devices were launched across the entire price spectrum, from entry-level devices to flagship foldables.

He further added that Samsung amassed a 21% market share in terms of 5G phone volume in the Indian smartphone market last year. The company took the first spot in terms of volume overall, and specifically for 5G phones as well.

Samsung maintains a solid footing in the mid-premium segment, which the two new devices will cater to this year, where it has the highest market share of nearly 31%. Rao confirmed that the Galaxy A series has been the highest-selling smartphone series in India for the past two years.

He added that Samsung laid the foundation last year to further expand its dominance and it will continue on this path to introduce more premium devices at attractive price points, further providing consumers with a wide array of capable devices to choose from.
