At this year’s Consumers Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Samsung has quite a few new products, both commercial and conceptual, to show us. We’re on the ground at the event and we can say that one of the coolest things we’ve seen from Samsung at CES this year is its hybrid slidable and foldable OLED display.

As you can see in the video in the tweet below, this hybrid display — which Samsung is calling Flex Hybrid — has a foldable display similar to what you see on the Galaxy Z Fold series, but also lets you slide out a side screen that can be accessed even when the foldable display is folded shut. As you would expect, this is more of a concept than something we will see on an actually buyable Samsung product any time soon. But as far as the cool factor goes, it scores full marks.

For those wondering what real-world situation a device with such a hybrid display would be useful in, an easy example is the YouTube app: you could use the main screen for watching a video while using the slidable screen for scrolling through the list of recommended videos. But, again, a commercial device with something like Samsung’s Flex Hybrid display is probably not coming out very soon, and all we can really do right now is look at the concept in action and marvel at it.
