Samsung’s high-end smartphone sales rise in India

The company sold 45 percent more high-end phones in India compared to the previous year.

A few years ago, Samsung used to be the largest smartphone brand in India. However, the company lost the top spot a couple of years ago, with Vivo taking its place. In terms of overall revenue, though, Apple and Samsung are virtually tied for the lead, as both companies sell far more high-end phones than their rivals.

According to a report from CyberMedia Research (CMR), Samsung was India’s second-largest smartphone brand by units sold. The company captured a 16 percent market share in 2025, while its shipments declined by 9 percent compared to the previous year. On a positive note, Samsung’s high-end smartphone sales rose 45 percent year over year. This indicates that the South Korean firm sold significantly more Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series phones in India last year.

Samsung ranked behind the Chinese firm Vivo, which held a 19 percent market share after achieving 10 percent higher sales than in 2024. However, most of Vivo’s sales came from mid-range phones. OPPO ranked third in the Indian smartphone market, largely driven by entry-level and mid-range devices.

Xiaomi captured a 13 percent share of the Indian smartphone market, placing fourth on the leaderboard, but its sales dropped 25 percent year over year. Realme, an OPPO sub-brand focused on value-for-money phones, ranked fifth with a 10 percent share.
