With this AWS global certification for water resource management, Samsung Electronics is the first company to pick up multiple accolades for its water resource management capabilities. This is also the first time a Korean company has been awarded Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Platinum Certification.
The AWS certification is Samsung's second global certification for sustainable water management. It previously bagged the highest Carbon Trust award by reducing water usage. Adrian Sym, CEO of Alliance for Water Stewardship, said, “As the fourth site in Korea to achieve AWS certification and the first in the country to achieve Platinum status, they are one of the first adopters of the AWS Standard in Korea and join 250 AWS certified sites globally.”
Upon receiving this new certification, Dooguen Song, Executive Vice President of the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Center at Samsung Electronics, said, “The AWS certification reflects Samsung’s continual and ongoing efforts to manage water resources, such as communication and cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders.”
The AWS standard has been evaluated based on 100 indicators. Based on the number of points achieved, the company is awarded any one of the three levels of AWS certification: Core, Gold, or Platinum. To celebrate World Water Day 2023, Samsung also unveiled a new animated ESG video and posted it on their Samsung Semiconductor Newsroom’s YouTube channel.
