Samsung has unveiled its new Generative AI model, and it is called Samsung Gauss 2. It is the successor to the company's first-generation GenAI model, which was unveiled last year. Its new GenAI model offers improved performance and efficiency and will be used for Galaxy AI features.

Samsung Gauss 2 comes in three versions

At the Samsung Developer Conference in South Korea, Samsung unveiled Gauss 2. It is the company's second-generation GenAI model, and it is multimodal, which means it can simultaneously take multiple data types as input, including code, images, and languages.

Samsung has plans to use Gauss 2 across a range of its products, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and home appliances. It has also developed Knowledge Graph technology, which will be integrated with AI to offer personalized features.

When Galaxy AI features start using Gauss 2, you will see things like Browsing Assist, Call Assist, Chat Assist, Generative AI Edit, Interpreter, Note Assist, and Sketch to Image will work faster and have improved quality.

Gauss 2 has improved performance and efficiency. It comes in three forms: Compact, Balanced, and Supreme. It supports 9 to 14 languages and various coding languages. Samsung claims Gauss 2 is 1.5x to 3x faster than first-generation Gauss, which means users experience shorter wait times while the processing is done.

The Compact version is meant to be smaller, faster, and more efficient so that it can run entirely on-device without the need for an internet connection. It can be run on devices like smartphones and tablets.

The Balanced version of Gauss 2 is meant to offer a consistent experience by balancing efficiency, performance, and speed. It may need internet connectivity.

Gauss 2's Supreme version focuses on offering the best performance by using the Mixture of Experts technology. It selects the most suitable expert model and activates it for a specific task.

Samsung is already using Gauss 2 internally for its employees

Samsung says its developers and business units are already using Gauss 2. Over 60% of developers in Samsung's DX division are using it. They use it for coding assistance (using code.ai assistant), document summarization, email composition, and translation.

Call center employees are also using it to automatically categorize and summarize customer calls.

Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, President, CTO of the Samsung DX and Head of Samsung Research, said, “Samsung Electronics is committed to developing cutting-edge software, including AI and data analytics, to enhance user experiences. With three distinct models, Samsung Gauss2 is already boosting our internal productivity, and we plan to integrate it into products to deliver higher levels of convenience and personalization.
