Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition on October 21. While the name doesn’t have the number 6 in it, this is a special edition based on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and brings some anticipated and welcome hardware upgrades.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition sports larger, wider screens and more RAM and storage as default (16B+512GB). It also has an improved camera setup – the Fold 6’s 50MP main camera has been replaced by a 200MP camera like the one on Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra smartphones.

But what about the rest of the camera setup? Has anything else changed? No, it hasn't. The Z Fold Special Edition uses the same ultrawide, zoom, cover display/front, and internal selfie cameras as the Fold 6.
You get a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP 3x optical telephoto, a 10MP cover display camera, and a 4MP camera. It’s a setup that will disappoint some fans, especially those who were unhappy with the limited zoom capabilities of the Fold lineup compared to Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra smartphones.
Samsung boasts that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition sports a 200MP camera even though it is thinner than the Fold 6, but not everyone will share the company’s enthusiasm. The 50MP primary camera on the latter is more than enough for all situations and lighting conditions; Samsung has essentially upgraded the camera that didn't need it.
On the bright side, it’s a good thing from a monetary perspective – the Special Edition is priced at an equivalent of $2040 in Korea, and more substantial camera upgrades would have made it even more expensive. Even $2040 is a lot, and it may be part of the reason why Samsung is keeping this device exclusive to China and its home country.
