The Galaxy Z Fold 9 will be Samsung's ninth-generation foldable phone, featuring a short and wide form factor. It succeeds the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and could rival the iPhone Duo 2.
It is expected to feature a less visible crease, higher performance, better cameras, and a larger battery. It will also come with more customizable software and improved AI-powered features.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 could carry the same overall form factor as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. This means we could be looking at a slim, short, and wide phone with an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass protection on the front and rear.
It is expected to have a 6.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch foldable inner screen. Both displays will likely feature Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with 3,000 nits or higher peak brightness, a 1–120Hz variable refresh rate, and HDR10+ certification. Samsung could also introduce a less visible crease on the foldable screen and an anti-glare coating.
The foldable phone should carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, along with a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It could have a new camera housing design, especially if it comes with three rear-facing cameras.
The device could house a 50MP primary rear camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus, and a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. Additionally, it may feature two 12MP front-facing cameras: one on the inner screen and another on the cover display.
All cameras should be capable of recording 4K video at 60fps, while the rear-facing primary and ultrawide lenses might support 8K video at 30fps. HDR10+ video recording will also likely be supported.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 is expected to come equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 for Galaxy processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. It could also be available in 512GB and 1TB variants. Its connectivity features will likely include GPS, 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.x, UWB, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
It could be powered by a 5,200mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 45W fast wired charging (USB PD PPS) and 25W fast wireless (Qi2.2) charging.
Samsung could debut the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series with Android 18 and One UI 10 out of the box. This software update is expected to bring a refreshed UI design language, more customization options, and highly advanced Galaxy AI features.
The phone will likely come with a promise of seven major Android OS and One UI upgrades, along with seven years of security patches.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 is expected to go official in July 2027 and become available for purchase in August. It will likely start at around $1,900 based on the pricing of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
However, there is a chance the price could jump to $2,000 or higher due to a projected memory chip shortage.
