Samsung went all-in on the SmartThings platform at IFA 2022 and shared its vision for the ultimate energy-efficient home. The company wants to help customers reduce power consumption and e-waste, and to this end, the company also announced an extended 20-year warranty on home appliances and BESPOKE products.

More specifically, Samsung announced at IFA 2022 that it is extending the warranty on digital inverter motors and compressors for washing machines, refrigerators, etc., to 20 years. It's the company's most comprehensive warranty to date for these components, and it shows that the company is just as confident in the reliability of its parts as it is committed to reducing electronic waste.

To be precise, the extended 20-year warranty applies only to those key components and not the whole product. However, customers can also register their home products for an all-encompassing 5-year warranty.

When and where can you get 20-year warranty from Samsung?

Some terms and conditions apply to the 20-year warranty, and the fine print reads as follows: Samsung now offers a 20-year warranty only to digital inverter motors and compressors in refrigerators and washing machines manufactured by Samsung and subcontracted manufacturers.

For customers in the USA, the 20-year warranty applies to digital inverter motors and compressors in refrigerators and washers. For customers in the EU, Samsung offers the same warranty for digital inverter motors in washers and dryers, and compressors in refrigerators, only for home appliances sold after July 2022.

Samsung has not participated in the mergers and acquisitions market for more than 7 years, despite having more than $60 billion in cash that it could use to buy new companies. Its absence from this space was also partly due to the legal troubles of heir Lee Jae-yong, who only recently returned to the top […]

Samsung’s Bespoke fridges can open their doors for you

In the age of smart mobile devices, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles, manufacturers seem to be moving away from traditional door mechanisms. Grabbing handles and pulling on doors is slowly becoming a thing of the past, but Samsung is trying to stay ahead of the curve. Here is one example. Every one of Samsung's new […]

Samsung’s product naming has a grammar problem

I'm a big fan of Samsung using proper nouns to label most of its home electronics. For instance, PC monitors names are no longer just a string of seemingly random letters and numbers. Instead, they belong to lineups named ‘Odyssey' or ‘ViewFinity.' It makes Samsung look better instead of coming across as a company that […]

Samsung has trained a Bespoke vacuum AI to clean up your floors

As odd as it sounds, Samsung's vacuum cleaners and select flagship phones have had something in common for a few years, i.e., bristles. The Sweeper Hinge mechanism employed by Samsung's foldable phones, for better or for worse, was inspired by vacuum cleaners. And now, Samsung's vacuums have one more thing in common with premium Galaxy […]
