In Q1 2024, Samsung lost the crown for India’s number one smartphone brand in terms of shipments to Xiaomi, which was later taken up by Vivo. Sadly, even in Q1 2026, the South Korean tech giant wasn’t able to take back its position.

Omdia has published an analysis of the Indian smartphone market in the first quarter of 2026. According to it, Vivo shipped the highest number of phones in the country last quarter; 6.3 million to be precise. That gave it a market share of 20%.

Samsung shipped 5.1 million Galaxy phones, giving it a 16% market share and the second position on the chart. The South Korean tech giant had shipped the same number of phones and had the same market share in India in Q1 2025. That’s despite the Indian smartphone market shrinking by 5%, which is impressive.

According to the research firm, Samsung’s smartphone sales were driven by the Galaxy S26 series, refreshed mid-range A series phones, and strong demand for Galaxy A07 and Galaxy A17. It also says that Samsung “adopted phased adjustments, aiming to protect demand and ensure smoother channel absorption.
