Will this battery upgrade be enough to improve autonomy on a full charge?
Reading time: 3 minutes
Since the original Galaxy Z Flip went on sale in 2020, Samsung has increased the battery capacity of the Flip series twice. Now, with the launch of the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 at Unpacked 2025, Samsung has done it again.
That might sound hard to believe, considering that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the thinnest in the series to date, measuring only 6.5mm when unfolded. However, the Flip 7's footprint is larger, which has allowed Samsung to fit a more generous dual battery combo.
Samsung's new Galaxy Z Flip 7 is equipped with a dual battery that has a (typical) rating of 4,300mAh. Combined with a more energy-efficient Exynos 2500 chip, Samsung says the Galaxy Z Flip 7's battery delivers up to 31 hours of video playback on a full charge.
For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 featured a 4,000mAh battery. The original Flip from 2020 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 debuted with 3,300mAh dual batteries, and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Flip 5 had 3,700mAh units.
Although the Galaxy Z Flip 7 can pride itself with another battery capacity increase, it's worth noting that charging speeds, both wired and wireless, have remained unchanged. You will be able to recharge the Galaxy Z Flip 7 at 25W wired and 15W wirelessly.
Now, as far as battery life is concerned, it will be very interesting to see how it all balances out. One of the most significant upgrades of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 consists of bigger screens, which, on paper, require more energy.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 sports a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display and a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen, which is the largest cover screen on a Galaxy Z Flip to date.
Furthermore, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's cover screen now supports 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rates, whereas the Flip 6's cover screen topped out at 60Hz. Using the new cover screen at a higher refresh rate could also negatively impact battery life.
In the end, it could all balance out, or in the best case scenario, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might offer the best battery life to date.
We will extensively test drive the Galaxy Z Flip 7 for our upcoming review, so if you want to learn more, stay tuned and subscribe to SamMobile TV on YouTube.
