It doesn't take long to realize how different Samsung's new Galaxy Z Flip 7 is from its predecessors. The redesigned cover screen sticks out, figuratively speaking, and there's no mistaking this new Flip for an old model.

But apart from a larger 4.1-inch cover screen that can now show more useful information, Samsung also upgraded a more technical aspect that will jump out at you once you start using the phone. Namely, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 cover screen has a higher refresh rate.

A more seamless experience across the two displays

When Samsung first equipped the Galaxy Z Flip series with a larger cover screen in 2023, it created a discrepancy between the foldable and rigid panels. While the foldable screen had a refresh rate of 120Hz, the cover display could only render half the frames and was locked at 60Hz.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 finally equalizes the playing field (almost). That's because the 6.9-inch foldable display supports refresh rates between 1Hz and 120Hz, while the 4.1-inch cover screen supports 60Hz and 120Hz.

Using both screens at their maximum refresh rates of 120Hz will undoubtedly feel more natural, particularly when switching between the two panels. Going from 120Hz back to 60Hz is often noticeable, and not in a good way.

A higher refresh rate will make the Galaxy Z Flip 7 cover screen feel more responsive, and animations will look smoother. Of course, we will test this more extensively for our upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 review. For now, you can check out our hands-on video below.

All in all, we suspect this upgrade will sit well with many Galaxy Z Flip fans who have been waiting for a superior cover display experience for the past couple of years.

On a final note, in case you're wondering, both the 6.9-inch foldable and 4.1-inch cover screens of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 have peak brightness levels of 2,600 nits, once again creating more cohesion across the two usage modes.
