Google unveiled its intelligent eyewear during I/O 2026. These are built in collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm alongside eyewear partners Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
They will be available for purchase in the near future, and according to some estimates, these smart glasses may see 2 million shipments this year.
Smart Analytics Global forecasts that shipments of smart glasses may grow 85% year-over-year in 2026, with more than 15 million units being shipped worldwide. It sees this category moving from early adoption toward wider consumer adoption.
Meta currently enjoys the first-mover advantage in this segment, having offered its Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses for a few years now. It's projected to end 2026 in the top spot with a 64% share of the total market.
Google and Samsung's effort may find considerable uptake in the market as well. At 2 million units, they'd come in second place with 18% of the total market share. Their choice of fashionable eyewear partners may further increase adoption and enable them to grab a wider share.
Samsung will take a crack at this market on its own as well. The company has been working on Galaxy-branded smart glasses which it's expected to launch at some point later this year.
These glasses, coupled with the work that Samsung is doing with Google and others, may enable Samsung to obtain a larger share of the market overall, stamping its authority as a leading competitor in this emerging segment.
