The company captured close to 25% of the smartphone market in India, ranking above Apple and Vivo, which ranked third and second, respectively.
Samsung reportedly focused on value rather than volume. Moreover, the report claims that market share in the ultra-premium smartphone segment doubled (99% higher) compared to last year. The ultra-premium smartphone market refers to phones priced above INR 45,000 (~$537). The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to help Samsung continue its lead.
The South Korean firm shipped 18.1% of all smartphones in India during Q2 2024, ranking third. Xiaomi ranked first in that regard, with an 18.9% share of the market, while Vivo ranked second with an 18.8% market share. Realme ranked fourth with a market share of 12.5%, while OPPO ranked fifth with a market share of 11.4%. Apple failed to rank in the top five places, but it did great in terms of revenue.
Samsung captured the most revenue in the Indian smartphone market. It captured 24.5% of the revenue in Q2 2024. That is 5.6% higher than last year's revenue. It means Samsung shipped more high-end phones in India than last year. It sold more high-end phones than Xiaomi and Vivo, as it captured more revenue than those Chinese brands despite shipping fewer smartphones.
Vivo ranked second with a revenue share of 16.8%, while Apple ranked third with a 16.3% revenue share. Despite ranking first in unit shipments, Xiaomi ranked fourth in revenue share. It could only capture 10.8% of the revenue of the Indian smartphone market during Q2 2024. OPPO ranked fifth by capturing a 10.1% revenue share of the market.
