Google's Nearby Share and Samsung's Quick Share were two services that essentially did the same thing. The two companies announced last year that the two file-sharing systems were being merged, with Nearby Share being absorbed into Samsung's Quick Share.

Quick Share is now the only file-sharing system on compatible devices, including Samsung's Galaxy Book PCs. This app can be used to share files and multimedia content between Windows PCs and Android devices. The files are transferred over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to achieve fast transfer speeds. If you use the app on your Samsung PC, there's a change that you'll need to make in the coming days.

Under this new arrangement, Samsung supports Quick Share on its own Galaxy ecosystem while Google supports it on Android at large. A similar split is also happening for Quick Share for Windows. Google currently supports Quick Share on Windows PCs from all manufacturers, including Samsung.

However, the Korean company is changing things by launching its own version of Quick Share for Windows. This will be a separate app for the service that the company will maintain itself, like it does for Quick Share on its Android devices.

The latest update for Quick Share from Google has confirmed that this app will henceforth be known as Quick Share only, and that support for Samsung PCs will end on May 28, 2025. Google's Quick Share app on Samsung PCs will then redirect users to install the separate Quick Share app from Samsung instead.
