Since GenAI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity hit the market, the demand for AI has been rising rapidly. These tools run on servers equipped with AI accelerators, which rely on large amounts of high-bandwidth memory (HBM). As a result, demand for memory (RAM) has also surged.

Unfortunately, memory supply hasn’t been able to keep up. Because of that, memory prices have been skyrocketing. This has pushed up the manufacturing costs of devices that use significant amounts of memory, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. And that’s not all.

Lately, the prices of OLED display panels and camera modules have also been increasing. On top of that, labor costs are rising, and due to intensifying competition, brands are being forced to spend more on marketing.

With all of this in play, many phone, tablet, and laptop brands, including Samsung, are planning to increase the prices of their products—especially those with lower profit margins, such as mid-range devices.

Samsung may increase the prices of phones, tablets, and laptops soon due to the memory shortage

Recently, we learned that Samsung is planning to increase the prices of Galaxy A series smartphones in India by up to INR 2,000 (approximately $22). Additionally, the South Korean tech giant is expected to launch its upcoming flagship lineup, the Galaxy S26 series, at a higher price than its predecessor.

In short, prices of Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and laptops are going up, and this trend is expected to continue as long as the memory shortage persists, which, according to experts, could last until 2028. If you were planning to buy a Samsung phone, tablet, or laptop, it may make sense to do so sooner rather than later to avoid paying more.

On account of the holiday season, there are currently some great deals on Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy Watch 8, and S95F OLED TV. That makes buying now even more appealing than waiting.
