One UI 9 on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

TL;DR

  • One UI 9 appears to add per-app screen zoom settings, letting each app use a different zoom level.
  • The available choices include Large, Largest, Medium, Small, Smallest, and System setting.
  • The feature may debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup first, with broader device support possible later.

Update: It's likely that this feature is exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, as it's not available on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It makes sense, too, as the Galaxy Z Fold 8's cover display is shorter in height so default app zoom wouldn't be suitable, particularly for media apps like YouTube.

Original story below

Samsung offers various software-enabled accessibility features to help improve visibility. You can zoom, enlarge specific areas of a screen, or expand the text.

It appears that the company is going to add another useful accessibility feature, one that would allow you to set custom zoom levels for each individual app.

References found in One UI 9 on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

The existing accessibility features are one-size-fits-all, so they may not achieve the desired result in all apps. For example, some apps may benefit from higher zoom levels, others from lower.

Android Authority found references to this new feature in the stable One UI 9 that ships with the company's new foldable phones. Text strings found in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's firmware reveal that the App screen zoom feature will let you set a separate screen zoom level for each app.

Options range from Large, Largest, Medium, Small, Smallest, and System setting. Once a custom zoom level has been set for an individual app, changing the system screen zoom level won't affect any of the apps for which a custom level has been set.

This feature isn't visible on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra as yet, likely because the units handed over to the media aren't running the retail firmware. It's likely that we may see this feature being enabled in the first firmware update that goes out once the new foldables are released on August 7.

There's no reason for this feature to remain limited to the new foldables, so it's likely that a future upgrade may bring it to other devices as well.
