One UI 6.1 introduces a fingerprint scanner bug on Galaxy S23

It hasn’t even been a week since Samsung rolled out One UI 6.1 to the Galaxy S23 series and people are already reporting many issues with it. First, we came across reports claiming that it restricted the charging speed on the phone to 15W, resulting in a longer time to charge the device. Then, we came across reports claiming that the phone was running warmer with it than before. Now, users say that after updating to One UI 6.1, the fingerprint scanner on their Galaxy S23 is not working properly.

According to many people on Reddit (1,2), when they wake up their Galaxy S23 by pressing the power button or tapping twice on the screen, the phone occasionally does not show the animation for fingerprint recognition. If they still go ahead and place their finger on the screen, the device does nothing. However, once they lift the finger, it shows the fingerprint animation. They have to then place their finger on the display once again to unlock the device. Considering how many times we unlock our phones in a day, this issue seems quite frustrating, and more importantly, a serious one.

    Yes, the issue exists

After reading people’s ordeal, I tried to replicate the issue on my Galaxy S23 by unlocking the device multiple times using fingerprint authentication, and I came across the issue once. During this one instance, when I woke up the phone by double-tapping on the display and placed my finger on the screen, the fingerprint animation disappeared. When I lifted my finger, it popped back once again. I had to then place my finger on the screen once again to unlock the device. However, it is worth mentioning that during this instance, I placed my finger slightly away from the fingerprint animation.

So, no, you are not the only one experiencing the issue. Fortunately, the issue pops up only occasionally. It is not unusual for a new version of software, especially one that brings many new features, to contain a few bugs. We just hope that Samsung fixes them quickly with another software update to save people from unwanted trouble.
