Samsung announced today that SmartThings Energy has partnered with Electricity Maps. The latter is a service that visualizes the sources of electricity and associated carbon dioxide emissions.
Thanks to this partnership, Samsung says SmartThings Energy users in the USA have the tools to make informed decisions about energy usage and reduce their carbon footprint.
The partnership with Electricity Maps is not the only new thing coming to SmartThings Energy in the USA. In addition, Samsung says the platform now supports more commonly used third-party devices.
According to the tech giant, smart lights, thermostats, and outlets are some of the most popular smart home products in the USA. The company says SmartThings Energy now offers better support for more third-party devices, which ultimately should lead to better energy management and reduced monthly costs.
Finally, Samsung also announced that SmartThings Energy users can save even more money and gain rewards thanks to an enhanced automatic Demand Response (DR) system.
This latest update to the SmartThings Energy platform lets users in the USA who enrolled in DR select the devices they want to participate in the program. They then can allow Samsung's AI-driven platform to automatically manage the devices, activate economical modes for thermostats, turn off lights and plugs, and enable compatible appliances with AI Energy Mode, the latter of which was introduced in the USA a year ago.
