New UI redesign to make Channel updates stand out on WhatsApp

We are approaching the end of 2023, which has been quite eventful for WhatsApp, especially regarding adding new features to its platform or testing new ones. WhatsApp introduced Channels to its users in mid-2023, while sprinkling new features for Channels along the way. In a new beta update, WhatsApp is bringing a redesigned UI for Channels that will make the Channel updates stand out on WhatsApp.

Notably, the new update that WABetaInfo spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta v2.24.1.6 for Android is related to sharing Channel messages as status updates. The new UI for WhatsApp Channel messages includes a button and a new layout that makes the messages stand out and directs the users to the source of information.

The new WhatsApp Channel UI is similar to Instagram posts shared via Stories

This new UI for WhatsApp Channels may not be a new interface for Instagram users, as Instagrammers know that sharing a post on Stories also has the same UI. However, this change can be termed Meta's way to bridge the gap between all of its services and make them streamlined, particularly UI.

Well, this is a nice subtle change for WhatsApp Channels since it is a feature that is meant to share information with millions of people. The new UI will help add some more context to the content being shared. WhatsApp already has a flagging system in place for Status and Channel updates that are harmful or violate its policies.

Apart from changing the UI of WhatsApp Channels, the new beta update also fixes a UI bug, according to the report. The bug that showed a large blue block on the bottom half of the screen sat close to the attachment sheet, which hid part of the conversation or the chat wallpaper. Thankfully, this bug has been fixed with the latest WhatsApp beta update.
