Yesterday, the news broke out that Netflix might soon increase the prices of subscription plans. However, that’s not the only thing the company plans to do. Netflix, which went fully digital after shutting down its DVD rental service, is coming full circle with plans to open physical stores in the US. The video streaming platform also announced The Netflix Cup, the brand’s first live sporting event.
Coming to the physical stores, Bloomberg reports that these brick-and-mortar stores will be called Netflix House. In these stores, Netflix might sell merchandise and food and offer live entertainment experiences. You can say that these stores could be Netflix’s little theme parks, similar to the ones from Disney and NBCUniversal. According to the publication, the video streaming platform will open physical stores in the US first, and then, the company could expand it to other regions around the globe.
Now, let’s talk about The Netflix Cup first. Professional F1 drivers will be paired with professional golf players in this sports event to play a golf match. Four F1 drivers are participating in the match: Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, and Pierre Gasly. All of them were featured in Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive To Survive TV show. They will be paired with four golf players: Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Max Homa, and Rickie Fowler. All of them were part of Netflix’s show called Full Swing.
The event will occur in Las Vegas on November 14, 2023, at 03:00 PM PT. Of course, it will streamed live on Netflix. It is worth mentioning that the video streaming platform is hosting the golf match right before the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is happening on November 19, 2023. So, The Netflix Cup will serve as a lead-in to the upcoming F1 race.
