Samsung is currently the leader in new smartphone form factors. The company has released four generations of its foldable screen smartphones (Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold). It even showcased a few smartphone concepts with a rollable and slideable screen. Now, Motorola has showcased its first rollable smartphone concept.

During the Lenovo Tech World 2022 event, Motorola showcased a new smartphone concept with a rollable OLED display. The device can extend or retract its display with a press of a button. When the display is retracted, it measures just over 4 inches, and when it's extended, Motorola says that the display measures 6.5 inches diagonally. That sounds pretty practical.

The company's video gives us only a glimpse of the device's front, but it appears that the bottom part of the phone is where the display extends from. Motorola isn't offering a 360-degree look at the device yet and has not revealed any plans to mass produce or sell the device. Still, it's interesting to see the concept and what such a form factor might offer once it hits the market.

Samsung already has two new smartphone form factors and is reportedly working on a dual-foldable tablet that could launch within the next couple of years. It would be interesting to see if the South Korean firm finds Motorola's new rollable smartphone form factor interesting enough to work on.
