Microsoft wants to borrow a Google-powered Galaxy S24 AI feature for its Copilot chatbot. As you may know, the Galaxy S24 introduced the Circle to Search AI tool that lets users circle anything on the screen to perform a quick Google search of the encircled object or text. Microsoft seemingly wants a piece of that.
A recent Canary release for the Microsoft Edge web browser includes a new “Circle To Copilot” feature in the Mouse Gesture settings menu (via Windows Report). The Canary channel is used for testing unreleased features with the help of a limited number of users, so the Circle To Copilot tool is not yet widely available for Microsoft Edge users.
Samsung Galaxy Book users could benefit from this
As you might expect, the Circle To Copilot feature in Microsoft's Edge web browser fulfills the same function as the Circle to Search tool available for the Galaxy S24 series and Pixel phones.
Edge users with access to this recent Canary build can draw a circle around an on-screen object with the mouse, and relevant search results are then shown in the Edge Copilot Sidebar.
Although the Galaxy S24 set the tone with the introduction of Circle to Search, we might see similar tools on other platforms soon. In the case of Microsoft Edge, such a tool could be welcomed by Galaxy Book users who could grow fond of the Circle to Search feature on their Galaxy S24 phones and may soon be looking for a similar feature on their Samsung laptops.
There's no release timeframe for Circle To Copilot, so at the moment, it's unclear when Microsoft might want to release this Copilot-powered tool on the live Edge channel.
If Microsoft adds this feature to its Edge browser for Windows desktops and laptops, it will be interesting to see if Google responds in kind by expanding the availability of its Circle to Search feature to include the Chrome desktop browser.
