A couple of weeks ago, Meta removed the support for Chromecast from Quest headsets, preventing people from mirroring the content that these devices show on their internal displays to Chromecast devices. People were furious at the company for making this change. Well, Meta seems to have listened to users as the company has now brought back the support for Chromecast to Quest headsets, once again allowing people to mirror the content that these devices show on their internal displays to Chromecast devices.

The announcement was made by multiple support executives from Meta in many threads on the company’s community forum. A Community Manager saidWe restored casting from Meta Quest headsets to Chromecast” in a thread where people were complaining about the issue. From what we could gather from multiple threads on the platform, Meta is bringing back the support for  Chromecast to Quest VR headsets with a software update that carries the firmware version 60.0.0.214.366, which the company seems to have started rolling out on Thursday.

However, in the same post, the Community Manager also says “Note that this feature is not fully supported and may not work properly for everyone. We recommend casting to a phone or computer instead for the best experience. Thanks for helping us make Meta Quest better for everyone and we will continue exploring ways to improve the casting experience going forward.” So, it looks like Meta is not fully supporting this feature or isn’t in favor of offering it. Currently, there’s no information about why the company is not enthusiastic about this useful feature.
