Last week, LG Electronics announced its 2024 lineup of OLED TVs, which brought four new models: B4, C4, G4, and M4. While the company had revealed a bunch of features those TVs offer, it hadn’t said much about the improvements in picture quality. Now, LG Display has announced Meta Technology 2.0, a technology that it offers with display panels that LG Electronics uses in its 2024 lineup of OLED TVs. The announcement reveals picture quality improvements that display panels used in LG’s 2024 lineup of OLED TVs offer.

LG Meta Technology 2.0

Meta Technology 2.0 is a successor to Meta Technology 1.0, which LG Display offered with display panels that LG Electronics used in its 2023 lineup of OLED TVs. While Meta Technology 1.0 offered 2,100 nits peak brightness, Meta Technology 2.0 offers 3,000 nits peak brightness. That’s 42% higher than the last year.

Meta Technology 2.0 has three features: Micro Lens Array+ (MLA+), Meta Multi Booster, and Detail Enhancer. MLA+ is a successor to Micro Lens Array (MLA) and Meta Multi Booster is an advanced version of Meta Booster, both of which were part of Meta Technology 1.0. Detail Enhancer is an all-new feature.

1,500 nits from RGB pixels + 1,500 nits from W pixel

According to LG Display, Meta Technology 2.0 offers 1,500 nits peak color brightness. From what we could understand, this is the amount of brightness you get from RGB pixels. The W pixel offers 1,500 nits additional brightness for a total peak brightness of 3,000 nits (LG Display’s OLED panels have a WRGB pixel arrangement). In comparison, Samsung Display offers 3,000 nits peak brightness just from RGB pixels in its OLED panels. So, Samsung and LG are neck-to-neck this time. It'd be interesting to see how they perform in real life.
