Surprisingly, while Samsung and Apple shipments in the USA decreased year-on-year, Motorola enjoyed a 21% year-on-year boost. Market watchers say the brand benefitted from the improved prepaid performance of the Moto G Play 2024.
Google also reportedly increased its shipment share in the USA by 19% year-on-year thanks to the earlier launch of the Pixel 9 series.
Samsung held a 23% smartphone shipment share in Q3 2024, while Apple and Lenovo had 53% and 14%, respectively.
Analysts say Samsung's sell-in decreased 13% year-on-year in Q3. However, the reason is simple. The Galaxy Z series, consisting of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, arrived earlier than usual. Initial shipments to retailers began at the end of Q2, in June, instead of Q3.
In October, the market watcher estimated that Samsung's global sell-through market share in Q3 stood at 19%, 3% higher than Apple's.
